Jay's Question & Answer Session

I want to thank everyone who sent questions for Jay to answer. It was very interesting to find out what his fans and friends wanted to know.  If you didn't to ask a question for Jay, send them in and I'll try to set up another time for Jay to respond. Mel (Dreams517@aol.com) and I were very happy about the support and interest in keeping California Dreams alive. Maybe we can talk the nice TV people into putting the show back on. Well, enjoy the Question and Answer session with Jay and look for new information to come out soon. Keith

Q: Why do you pronounce your name, "Frank-ie"? Shouldn't it be, "Frank-AH"? Isn't it Germanic in origin? - Bavarian Fan
A: Yes it absolutely is. As to its pronunciation, the only reason for that is, in America, this is the way people seem to pronounce it.

Q: I would love to know if it is possible to get an autographed picture of you.
A: Unfortunately I don't have any. If you keep checking the site, when I have some to spare I will announce it. Although I can't and won't promise anything.
thanks for your time.
[Jay] My pleasure.
Jen

Dear Jay Anthnoy Franke
I just had a couple questions for you that you may have gotten asked quite a bit. But hoped you could answer for me.
[Jay] No problem.

Q: One is what is the word on the California Dreams Anthology Album?
A: That was made for cast & crew only. I don't even have mine 'coz I left it somewhere. If anyone runs across a copy somewhere - please let me know 'coz I want it too! It was due out quite some time ago. I haven't heard any reference to it in stores.

Q: Also is there any chance California Dreams will be out for sale on video?
A: Maybe one day though, doubtful.

I think that would be kind of nice if the show were out on video. Hope to hear from you soon. Take care in the meantime.
[Jay] You too.

And say Hello to the rest of the California Dreams when you see them. Thanks Stay Stout
Jason Birket

Hi Jay, My name is Ashley and I'm a big fan.
[Jay] Thank you, Ashley.

Q: Did you really play the Guitar on CD?
A: On some songs, absolutely. Other songs were recorded previously in the studio.

Q: Do you keep in touch with any of the other former cast members?
A: Not really. We just all went our separate ways - I hope they're doing well where ever they are.

Q: When are their bdays?
A: I have no idea.

Happy belated bday,
[Jay] Thanks very much.

I just learned tonight that it was your bday Mon. Talk with you later, Ashley!!

Q: What is the most success in life that you ever wanted?
A: I don't measure success by monetary gain or others' views of my accomplishments. Success is measured by what you do for other people and how you help them. Thus far, I'm not nearly as successful as I'd like to be.

Ken Shamrock

Jay, Happy late birthday.

Q: I want to know if you ever dated any of the girls on the show?
A: Never.

What was your favorite episode to do?
A. The last episode and the one where I punch Sly.

Do you still talk to any of the old cast?
A. Nope, we lost touch eventually.

Matt

Q: Is making a singing career totally out of the question?
A: No, it's not totally out of the question.

Q: If you did make an album, would the music be so totally different form the dreams or not?
A: 100% different.

Q: What kind of stuff do you write?
A: My 'stuff'. I really can't say what it is but it's kinda folky and mellow, Pink Floyd-meets-Woody Guthrie.

Q: How did you get the part of Jake?
A: I was sent out on an audition and was told it was a guitar playing, bad boy. I took my guitar and played a song (I knew Jake wasn't supposed to be able to sing but I sang anyway) for the producers and casting director. I auditioned again 6 or 7 more times and finally came out of an audition for the movie, 'Serial Mom', made a call to my agent and found out that I got both of them and chose California Dreams.

Q: What made you audition for california dreams?
A: I was tired of eating Top Ramen. I wanted to eat good food and make good money!

Sukirno

Hi Jay,

Q: Just curious, what made you decide to move to Texas?
A: A Beautiful, wonderful, vibrant, talented, juicy, delicious, thrilling, Trinidadian-Island woman named, Joanna.

Q: And how are you enjoying it?
A: It's Texas.

Q: Is this where you want to stay?
A: Who knows. I'll go where the wind carries me (or my woman).

Q: Also what is your job at the video game company?
A: I am a quality assurance engineer.

Q: I am a very very big fan of California Dreams and the music and I have the first cd made by the group and I was just wondering if there is another cd out by the California Dreams because I really want the rest of your songs.
A: Yes - but it's not available to the public

KDG

Q: Do you want California Dreams to still do season 6, 7,8??? Or maybe a movie? Please reply!

thanx Nikki

A: Doesn't really matter. Maybe a movie, sure.

Q: What type of shows are you looking to star in?

Kim

A: Mainly, new areas to move from the leather-clad biker dude.

Q: 1) Can you actually play those guitar riffs that "Jake" made look so easy?
A: Yes.

2) Do you know how I can get a hold of some of the actual sheet music played by the Dreams?
A.Nope. Sorry I can't answer this one for you.

Kevin Van Dyk

Q: What was Jay's first acting gig?
A: First paid was General Hospital, the role of Greg Watkins.

Q: How old is he now?
A: 27

Q: What was the most fun part of being on California Dreams? Thanks, Tracy
A: The overall experience was fun.

Jay-

Q: I was just curious as to how you got into acting.
A: I started taking drama classes from elementary school. My teacher sent me to take them to get me out of her hair.

Q: How old were you and how did you get "discovered"?
A: About 16 or 17

I am a sixteen year old who really loves to act, sing, dance, and play the piano. I plan on going to collage inorder to have a stable life but acting is never out of the picture.

Q: Do you have any lessons you learned or anything like that?
A: Just to be myself and not to try to be anything I'm not. I like myself better that way and people will like me better that way as well.

Also I read somewhere that you used to live in the Northwest and Q: I was just curious as to where and when because I live here and have all my life. Thank you for your time and I hope you had a wonderful birthday.
A: I used to live in WA state on Bonney Lake, near Tacoma.

Hey Jay what's up man? Your show was the best ever. Not only because of the comedy but also because of the music. The music was absolutely great. Um, I have a few questions to ask you and one of them is important.

Q: First, have you ever thought about becoming a professional musician, making albums, and touring around the world?
A: Sure I've thought about it.

Q: Second, do you still keep in touch with your former cast mates, Kelly, Jenny, Michael, etc.?
A: We lost touch with each other.

Q: And finally, this is the important one. While you were doing the shows, there were a couple of songs that...well I don't know if you wrote but I'll say you did. Anyway, there were two songs one whom you wrote with Kelly called "The Way We Are," and during the first season Brent wrote a song called "Everybody's Got Someone." Those two songs were very inspiring and I can really relate to those two songs, and what I'm asking you is that soon I will be a musician, making albums, etc., and since those two songs were so great I want to ask you if it's ok that I can use these two songs and hopefully put them on a record that I will hopefully make in the near future. Thanks Jay. Later. Sincerely, Jon-Michael Acevedo

A: I think the music is owned by Pyrell Music and they're in LA. I don't know the address.

Hi Jay,

Q: I just wanted to know which cast member/members you were closest to while you worked on California Dreams, and if you still keep in touch with any of them. Thanks,

Lauren Tindale

A: Brent when he was there.

Q: "Jay, on the 'Last Gig' were you really crying that much, from when you said goodbye to Kelly Packard on the balcony, onwards? I spoke to Brett Dewey about it, and he said you were all so upset that you had to film the song 'So Glad' at the beginning of the day instead of at the end, so it wouldn't upset you all too much. Is this true?"
Vikki
A: I was crying that much from saying goodbye to everybody and yes, what you heard about the filming is also true.

Hi,
Q: Going back to the Cal. Dreams days, how did you get on the show? Did you audition for the original cast or waited until season 2? Brooke

A: I actually auditioned for the part of Sly. I didn't get it (thank God) and they called me back for the part of Jake.

Q: My question is "who is this Keith and how are you connected personally to Jay?"

Erin Coates

A: Keith is a friend who also happened to watch the show.

Q: Favorite CD episode?
A. The last episode and the one where I punch Sly.

Q:Favorite CD song?
A. So Glad I was There.

Q: Bloopers from filming CD?
A: Once Sly was supposed to grab a sandwich someone else was making and one night, we replaced the sandwich with one that was made with peppers and hot sauce, he took a bite and had a very hard time continuing!

Q: Favorite Music group or singer?
A: Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Santana, Bob Marley.

Q: What was it like to film a TV show? Did you do readings before rehersing on the set? Did you have your own dressing room? What kind of hours, days a week and months out of the year did you work?
A: Yes to all. 6 months a year, any where from 6-14 hours a day, 5 days a week.

1)What is your favorite episode in California Dreams?
A. The last episode and the one where I punch Sly.

Chizuru

Jay,
Please could you tell me a little more about how and why you started ballet training. I am trying to encourage my son to keep up ballet lessons, so any information or encouragement from you would be most helpful.
Many thanks, Ralph
